* Number of extensions: Asterix is capable of supporting upto 100 extensions while Cisco and Avaya may go upto 360 extensions thereby suporting large organizations also. This improves the scalability so helping to reduce costs in the end.
* Freeware: Asterisk is freeware and runs with a Linux server. This makes the telephony solution less expensive than either Cisco or Avaya which can make extensive usage of routers and switches for communication.
* Installation and maintenance: Asterisk is really a programmers dream because it is open source and may be changed at his will. However, with an end-user, it can be a nightmare. Support and services are better with Cisco and Avaya that are established names in the marketplace.



The main thing opting for Asterisk is your money. However, it's not always preferable to look in the initial price of things. Other criteria like scalability, integrating of 1 device online websites already existing, interoperatability and long term costing is highly recommended while choosing one product over another.
